COSMIC, Center Of Social Media Innovations for Communities
It is a research centre that involves researchers specialising in communities, design and technologies from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB), Nanyang Technological University (NTU) and National University of Singapore (NUS). The Centre aims to empower communities, specifically those in the informal economy who are typically underserved by existing technology vendors and telecoms service providers through social media innovations that improve the way they live, work and play. The Centre intends to partner with Singapore/Indian and regional companies or spin-off companies to test and deploy technologies. Through the Centre, Singapore can become a pioneer in the creation of social media innovations for the big potential market presented in the informal economy. The Centre will also be training a number of research students at the masters, doctoral and post-doctoral levels who would specialize in different aspects of social media innovations.
