Mime is one of the forms of performing art in which an actor express his feelings by using his body motions without use of speech. 'Mime' is derived from a Greek word 'mimos' which means an actor. The art includes many rasas such as Adbhuta, Bhavyanka, Hasya, Karuna, etc. Sound, light, makeup and silence are the several elements of mime. Moinul Haque is a well-known and self-taught mime artist of Assam. He has been performing this art since 1970's and is a founder of 'Mime Academy'. He has been honoured with several awards like Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the year 2009, is a holder of Senior Fellowship in the field of mime from the Department of Culture, Government of India for his involvement with the Deaf and Dumb School at Guwahati and is a Resource person for the Center for Cultural Resources and Training, New Delhi, under the Central Government. His productions such as "The Thief", "The Puppet", "Mask Maker" and "Paisa" addressed social issues.
