Ellora (Verul) – Lies 30 km from the Aurangabad city, in the Indian state of Maharashtra. Aurangabad is one of the major tourists attracting city due to world heritage sites - Ajanta & Ellora caves. Ellora caves are finest specimens of cave temple architecture. Their structures represent the three faiths of Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism. The 34 "caves" - 12 Buddhist, 17 Hindu and 5 Jain caves, demonstrate the religious harmony prevalent during this period of Indian history. The Buddhist caves consist mostly of viharas (monasteries) carved into the mountain face. The Hindu caves represent a different style of creative vision and execution skills. Whereas, Jain caves reveal specific dimensions of Jain philosophy and tradition. Bhadra Maruti Temple: Dedicated to Hanuman is located at Khuldabad, few killometers from Ellora caves. Here, the idol of Hanuman is in reclining/ sleeping posture. It is one of the only two places where you will find Hanuman in a sleeping posture, the second being at Allahabad.
