Khabar Lahariya is an independent rural digital news platform run entirely by women journalists from marginalised communities in India. It began as a print newspaper in 2002 and transitioned into a digital platform, covering issues often ignored by mainstream media, such as caste discrimination, gender violence, and rural governance. Journalists receive training in mobile journalism and investigative reporting, allowing them to report from remote districts in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh. Their content is available in multiple regional languages, ensuring accessibility. Khabar Lahariya holds significant design value as a pioneering hyperlocal journalism platform that covers grassroots-level stories often overlooked by mainstream media. As a women-led initiative, it trains and employs rural women journalists, empowering them with a voice in media. Embracing digital transformation, the platform leverages mobile journalism to expand its reach and impact. Additionally, its multilingual reporting, publishing content in Hindi and local dialects, ensures accessibility and engagement with diverse communities, making it a powerful model of inclusive and independent journalism.
