| Design Innovation Centre - IITB participated at the Innovation Festival 2015 at Nehru Science Centre, Worli from 27th -29th March 2015. DIC exhibited its various projects and their prototypes in the area of Agriculture and Rural Development. Among other notable exhibits were the projects for India Post, the Palki redesign and Rupee Symbol design journey. | Dr. Sudharkar who founded the 108 Emergency Ambulance Service visited IDC on 17th March 2015. An IIT Kharagpur graduate himself, he spoke about his humane endeavour to save lives and how the enterprise is supported both by Government and local NGO's. The service now covers all types of emergencies. The secret of its success, as he said was the fine combination of entrepreneurial thinking and innovative management.108 Service is available in 22 states including the remotest of the villages and on an average they receive 65,000-90,000 calls per day. |

Kendriya Vidyalaya students across Maharastra visit IDC to understand Design.
About 150 students from Kendriya Vidyalaya of Nashik, Pune, Aurangabad, Nanded and Mumbai visited IDC as they had come to 22nd National Children Science Congress 2014 at Kendriya Vidyalaya, IIT, Powai. Prof. Chakravarthy conducted an interesting interactive session followed by a presentation about IDC and its various departments. The young minds were curious about design and its impact on society. Prof. Chakravarthy emphasized on good and meaningful design that can have a positive impact on the lives of the people at the bottom of the pyramid. The two hour visit ended with visit to the IDC Workshops, Bamboo Studio, Innovation Studio, Library and Sound Studio.

'Zero Sum' - An educational game based on maths, designed by Industrial Design Center was launched by Gakken, Japan on 1st may in the presence of Indian Ambassador, Gakken officials and other dignitaries. Zero Sum was designed by students Priya Ganadas, Chandni Kabra and alumnus Ashish Ganu under the guidance of Prof Athavankar. The game was designed to playfully teach children (age group 6 and above) basic arithmetic operations and order of operations, focusing on achieving a high repeat play value even after the concept of the game is understood.
Game consists of number chips, power cards and zero badges and can be played in a group of 4 to 5. Zero Sum was conceived during Prof Athavankar's 'Game Design' module last year and was later redesigned to suit Japanese audience.
'Zero Sum' has pioneered first of its kind collaboration between Gakken Group, and IIT Bombay. We are thrilled to further shape this relationship with Gakken, an established leader in education. |
