Bombay (Mumbai) constitutes of seven islands. For centuries, the islands came under the control of successive indigenous empires before being ceded to the Portuguese and subsequently to the British East India Company. The city still maintains the imprints of the past, which can be easily seen in the regular architectures and lifestyle.
