The University of Bombay was founded in 1857. It is one of the three oldest public state universities in India. Until 1996, the university was known as the University of Bombay but when the city was renamed from Bombay to Mumbai, the University was also renamed as The University of Mumbai. The university has 2 major campuses, one in Kalina, Santacruz and one in Fort. The fort campus houses the administrative division of the university. The building in Fort is built in the Gothic style which is peculiar to many building in the vicinity.
