by
Prof. Nina Sabnani
IDC, IIT Bombay
  • Printer-friendly version

Paitani Sarees are woven in the town of Paitan situated near Aurangabad in Maharasatra. The paitani sarees are made nowadays out of fine silk with hand woven gold and silver threads forming some of the patterns. This tradition has been kept alive by dedicated craftsman for over 2000 years. The patterns are derived from motifs from the Ajanta Caves.
