Parchin Kari also known as Pacchikari in recent times, is a method of inlaying colored marbles or semi-precious stones into a stone base, often in geometric or flower patterns. This traditional art is quite exquisite because of its long and detailed process which requires great artistry, patience and precision.
Depending on the shape and size of the floral designs, the marble is cut and further drilled to bring out the various contours on the surface. A layer of poster color is applied on the surface of the marble. Furthermore, the preferred patterns are sketched using a pencil. Then the Master artisan starts engraving these hand-drawn designs using small chisels or raffles on the surface of the marble. Colored stone pieces are cut to the required shapes and sizes with the help of a specialized tool. The Marble is then chipped out to set the colored stones firmly on its surface. Subsequently, the gem is glued to the marble using a special mixture called Elalite.
