The Pattachitra artists or ‘Chitrakaars’ use different hand drawn sketches for reference and practice. These are handed over in the form of a family sketch book, over generations and cherished as a precious sacred possession. The younger artists are given rigorous training over years to internalize the style such that when they start practice, the typical features are maintained. When one becomes an expert in the field and start teaching and educating others he ensures that the new learners practice the same sketches which he had learnt from his teacher in the early stage of his career.
