Tanjore is also known for its traditional toy called "Tanjavur Thalaiyatti Bommai" in Tamil, meaning "Tanjore Head-Shaking Doll". These dolls have heads that shake when moved and can be removed. This art began in Thanjavur around the early 19th century during King Saraboji's rule and has been unique to the region since then. Another type is the "Thanjavur Gundusatti Bommai" or Tanjore Roundpot Rocking Doll, which portrays kings and queens from Thanjavur's history. These dolls have heavy bottoms and gently rock back and forth when disturbed.

Artist Rajendra Prabhu is a roundpot rocking toy maker from the village Puniyalur in Tajavur. Making toys has been his family business since many generations. Sakthivel is a bobble-head toy maker from the village Puniyalur in Tajavur. He has been involved is the toy making business since 10 years along with his three other family members. Any tourist visiting this city typically buys one of these dolls as a souvenir to take home.
