Himalayan Zoological Park is located 3 km outside of Gangtok occupying an entire hill. The zoo spreads over an area of 205 hectares at an altitude of 1780 metres. Animals are kept in open enclosures so large that you might not even see the animals most of the time. The visitors therefore have to be patient and wait for them to come out. There are places created to rest along the way including canopied weather shelters and benches. Among the animals you can see are red panda, blue sheep, musk deer, barking deer, panther, leopard cat, himalayan palm civet, tibetan wolf, goral spotted deer and himalayan black beer.
