On the Power loom:
As Mr. Subramani and his wife are the only craftsmen at Vaniyambadi who still continues to weave the kora grass mat on the ground loom. As said by the craftsmen there were lot of people who used to weave the mat on the ground loom, some have expired, some have stopped and others have shifted to weave the mat on the power loom. The kora grass collected from the nearby water locations are segregated to be woven plain or coloured. The kora grass to be coloured are further taken for the colouring process, where the kora grass is kept in water for some time and then mixed with required dyes and boiled.
After the colouring process, the kora grass is completely dried and bundled. As per the requirement, the kora grass either plain or coloured are taken to the cutting machine to cut the grass to the required lengths and placed on the passage segregating as per the colours. Power looms are attached with the jacquard mechanism by which the mat is woven to the desired pattern.
