Crochet involves only two materials that is a hook and any medium of thread or yarn. The hook are in many sizes and forms. Artisan prefers to the aluminum crochet hook to have an easy flow with the work. To crochet successfully, firstly the yarn has to be held in the hand in comfortable manner where the hand should support the yarn in providing enough tension and in gradual feeding of the yarn to the hook for further process. The hook is held in other hand on its thumb rest in a comfortable manner. Usually the yarn is held in a less dominant hand and hook in high dominant hand. For right handers the yarn is held in left and hook in right, for left handers it is vice versa.
The further information is given according to the right hand holding hook and left hand supporting the yarn. The yarn is held in left hand were it is brought underneath the left hand and brought up after the little finger and wrapped it around once to the little finger which becomes a loop around the finger further it is brought over the top of the hand then it is glided down after the fore finger and the thumb finger is over it. The fore finger and thumb helps is resistance and in providing enough tension by jamming both the fingers together. Now the hook is held like a knife in right hand were the thumb finger is rested on the thumb rest. Fore finger and middle finger is supporting the pressure applied by the thumb the other side of thumb rest.
Firstly the crochet slip knot has to be made on the hook. The yarns tail that is the first end of the yarn is taken and looped over towards the working end and brought down. Then the tail end of the yarn is brought up below the loop where an X mark is obtained. The loop and the tail end is quite extended for easier process. Now the hook in right hand is inserted inside the loop from above where the tail end yarn is pulled with the help of the hook slightly and looped to the hook making a slip knot leaving a bit of the tail end yarn after the knot. So there is a knot on the hook and two yarn threads are obtained after the knot where one is short tail end and the other is working end yarn from the skein. The slip knot is easy to loosen or tighten with regard by pulling the yarn from the working end. Generally the slip knot is made slightly loose so that the knot can gliding on the hook in work progress.
After the slip knot is made it is rested on the shaft of the hook and further crochet stitch initiates to make a product. The work end yarn is brought over the hook from behind and it is held by the hook point that is rotated downward to lock the yarn. Later the tail end yarn is pulled with help of the left hand towards the throat of the hook to release the first knot out and to create a new knot from the work end yarn that is locked onto the hook. The same procedure is made several times to obtain a crochet chain. Locking the yarn to the hook is called yarn over in crochet terms.
The crochet chain is then stitched furtherly to make a single crochet row which later is stitched into a fabric. The stitches of the chain is worked upon to make a single crochet row. The present stitch on the shaft of the hook enacts just like the first slip knot of the crochet. The hook is drawn inside the second top loop of the chain thus the hook obtains two loops. Then the work end yarn is brought over the hook from behind and pivoted to the point hook (yarn over). Later the first loop on the hook is pulled towards the throat of the hook to release the loop out and to create a knot from the work end yarn that is locked onto the hook. The hook still has two loops on it. The hook is again yarn over by the work end yarn and the two loops on the hook is released out and a single knot is created by the work end yarn which is yarned over. After this process the hook obtained a single loop on its shaft. The hook is then again drawn inside the second top loop of the chain and the hook obtains two loops again. The same procedure is followed throughout the chain to create a single crochet row. After the single row is made a single chain stitch is made and the hook obtains two loops onto it. Now the single crochet row enacts like the chain stitch were the further yarn overs are stitched. This procedure is followed throughout to make a piece of fabric required to obtain a pouch. The last loop which stands on the hook after couple of rows it is knotted by the work end yarn and the extra yarn is cut off from the skein.
The fabric obtained is folded in two equal halves. The ends of the fabric is stitched together in crochet chain stitch and one side it is left open to make a small pretty pouch. The pouch is then enhanced and embellished with a small beautiful crocheted flower stitched on it.
