Projects in AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction) industry involve multi-disciplinary collaborations and exchange of building data sets. Traditionally collaboration happens through the exchange of 2D drawings, either physically or electronically, with the collaborators. With increasing complexity of building forms and techniques, 3D models, both physical and digital are widely used for better comprehension of the structure. With the adoption of advanced CAD tools like BIM (Building Information Modeling), the data is exchanged over the cloud by embedding geometric and non-geometric data into a 3D model.
In this project, we present a mixed reality (MR) ecosystem for enhancing collaboration between participants in an architectural project. The project primarily investigates design decisions, interactions, and activities which enable collaboration in MR. Based on the location of the collaborators, various scenarios were identified, and a working prototype was developed based on those scenarios and was tested with users for feedback and insights for further development.
