The word mime is derived from Greek word ‘Mimos’ which signifies an actor. Modern mime has undergone several transitions though the basic elements remain the same, such as the use of expression, physical movements, body language, and at times the aid of a prop. This art has many rasas such as adbhuta, hasya, raudra, veera, karuna, shanta, vibhatra, bhavyanka and shringara rasa. Rasas are the essential aspects that define a set of moods and emotions. Apart from these rasas sound, lights and makeup are also important elements of mime. Sound effects are used to bring in the element of humour to liven up the situation. White makeup heightens the dramatic impact of expressions. Lights are used to show the different situations of drama like in sad situation low lights are used.
