These are pictures of Jain temple city of Palitana located on Mount Shatrunjaya in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat. These were built in two phases-during the 11 and 12th centuries as part of the renaissance of temple building all over India The peak is a 3 ½ km climb of over 3500 steps from the town. Approximately 863 marble carved temples are located in Palitana. The pillars on which these temples stand are carved with images of idols, floral motifs and different geometrical decorations. The whole experience is enhanced by the surrounding cloudy mist which passes through the temple pathways and makes it feel like heaven among clouds.
