About Hase Chittara:
The traditional Folk art is mural painting known as Hase Chittara in Sagara village of Shimoga district. The art is traditionally practiced by Adi Dravida and few other communities in and around districts of Shimoga. Hase Chittara painting is done on mud walls of tribal houses. The aesthetic designs of tribal figures, geometric patterns are intricately painted with natural grass brush and natural colors which are made using rice flour and Kemmannu-red earth, Sunna-lime stone and turmeric. The unique folk art is mainly practiced by tribal women during their leisure time. All the themes of Hase Chittara are inspired by nature. This particular religious art is majorly practiced during weddings and local ritual occasions.
Paddy Thorana:
Sagara is located in Shimoga district of Karnataka. Paddy design/decorations is traditionally practiced by the folk artisans of Sagara. Paddy Thorana (hanging) is an art form creatively designed using paddy shoots/leaves into Thorana. The traditional art form has very important significance in the life of the local people. Paddy product forms such as birds, door hangings etc. are inspired by nature. The craft was introduced by ‘Della Vella’ from French during 1625.
People:
Chandrasekhar –Senior artisan from Sagara has been practicing the craft from past 20 years. He has introduced many innovative art forms without disturbing the traditional aspect of the folk art. Many youngsters of current generation are inspired by his creativity and joined hands to create many more innovative art forms of paddy.
