The movie is based on wartime through the eyes of a 10 year old with an imaginary friend. It's a satirical form of writing a World War 2 story. The brightness of the movie shows that it could be the summertime of WW2.

The terrible blue contact lenses on the screen version of Hitler, who is the imaginary friend of Jojo, is the same as a young 10 year old boy might imagine him. He is impatient, irritable, cranky, fickle which is the opposite of what Hitler was, the man who did bad with the Germans.

The brown bag colour with the more voluminous riding pants which suggests his insecurities, the red patch on his arm, this was the identity of Hitler which was translated in the movie. The colour of Jojo's costume was also in khaki colour which symbolizes his trust in Hitler. The background of the jungle is subdued as the movie focuses on the characters to tell the story.

The interior of Jojo's house was colorful. This was intentional because it created a safe and friendly environment around the house, a nurturing one.

Rosie, Jojo's mother, was ahead of her time. The colour of her clothes, the bold prints were very modern for her times. There is actually a term used- 'Nazi chic', from that time. She symbolises a part of the heart which was there during the wartime, the good deeds that she has done.

The shoes of Rosie were an important part of the story. They were not shown on the face but came in as cameos which showed us that these shoes belong to Rosie. The colours show the artistic background of hers. They are colourful which represents the brave attitude of hers just like the colour of her costumes which are also bold.

After Jojo finds out about Elsa, hiding in his house and talking with her, trying to know her, he begins to trust her and finds out that she is a good person, the colour of Jojo's clothes changes which represents that he is losing his trust from Hilter and his beliefs. Greens and greys come into the picture, which was earlier bright and crisp khaki colour.

Jojo starts to doubt his imaginary friend, his mother's loss, the awakening, all this has affected Jojo which is depicted through the colour of his clothes. The colours from the start of the movie have gone and the palette of the film shifts from summertime to winter. The sweet and funny side of the film has turned sad. The greys and saturated tones fill the film's looks.

Captain Klenzendorf followed by his loyal subordinate Finkel. The queerness in these characters were shown through scenes when they wink at each other and apologize when they had to talk rudely. They never acknowledged their romance. The red cape and the red fringes shows the coming out, now that the war's ending, of what they are and the red colour here symbolises love.

The colours are used to show the opposite ends of the spectrum, two sides of yourself, shadow and light. Most of the scenes use complementary colours. There is a slow process of Arthur Flex turning to Joker.

Complementary colour i.e blue and yellow are used in this scene. The unsettling tone. The outside and the inside of the character is opposite.

The scene shows the loneliness in the alley, the pain from the beating, the water coming out the flower shows the comedy that came into the scene of pain. The yellows, reds and green are standing out in the dull background which helps in focusing on the character.

The red suit is the same as the Joker red by desaturating to show that he is still Arthur. The moment is about Arthur as the spotlight focuses on him but the light used overexposes the character and background is blurred by that. It light brings him in the front where he cannot hide from anyone. It's like an interrogative light.

We understand Arthur slowly because the color moves us forward. As his mission gets more and more important, the colors get more and more vibrant. But still need the shadows to show his intentions and ill-will. The contrast in the colour shows the two sides of the character.

The dance in the bathroom after murdering three businessmen shows the coming out of Joker. It's Arthur’s first emotional break into becoming Joker. He is not worried about what he has done. The yellow of his vest and the joker makeup stands out from the pale and dull bathroom walls.

The point when Arthur has turned himself into Joker, the bright red comes up. He doesn't want to hide anymore behind the mask. He has removed the mask of predicting to be someone, who his mother used to say, that he is here to make everyone laugh. But he struggles to make it happen. Hence when he comes out, he is a different person who doesn't care about the consequences and dances freely.

The colourful curtains show the coming out of Arthur as Joker in front of everyone on the show. His dance portrays the unpredictability of the character.

The iconic Joker smile is made by his blood-red. He finally has accepted himself as Joker and stands up to the people who are with him.

This scene is at the asylum hence the walls are in whites to make the patients feel calm and at peace. The red footprints show that he has brought Joker with him to the hospital.

The scene is where Mia is auditioning for a role. The classic teal/blue primary colors in the frame contrast with orange sticky notes in the background.

The contrasting feelings going through her life, thinking in the bathroom can be seen through the magenta lighting and rear walls contrasting with the green walls around the mirror.

The movie heavily features the triad of primary colors together in the frame. This color scheme appears very rich and tends to really pop out. It is likely used to communicate the vibrancy and glamor associated with the movie industry where Mia wishes to be. On the other hand Sebastian is in subtle, mellow and jazz like colours.

Whenever Sebastian is the key subject, or the movie is focused on the subject of Jazz we’re usually treated to complementary blue and orange/brown shades. Also, the color palette tends to be relatively muted when it’s just him, and Mia isn’t around.

The green of Mia’s dress and the chairs complement. Its the start of their relationship but they are still different personalities which can be seen from the dress colours.

The scene has a primarily purplish colour throughout, but when you look closely you can find two triadic colour palettes. combinations. The pots in the back orange and green contrast with purple. Also the pot colours yellow and red contrasting with the blue of the sky.

As Mia and Sebastian come together and are in a relationship, they are in similar colours. This shows the love between them.

A small but not insignificant color choice, Mia’s red drink contrasts with Sebastian’s green beer bottle. The differences in the relationship can be seen through this contrast.

The five emotions play an important role in Riley's life. Joy is depicted in a happy yellow colour and a summery colour scheme. She is the positive person in the group of emotions who wants to keep Riley happy . Anger is associated with red because when a person is angry the blood flow increases and he turns red. Disgust is represented by green as when a person feels sick or disgusted by something. Purple denotes fear as it's a mysterious colour. Sadness is represented by blue, as the saying feeling blue.

When Riley and her family come to the new house, it looks dirty and grey. A little girl dressed in bright colorful clothes surrounded with dull and grey walls. It shows the discomfort of moving to a new place.

The dull colours are used to show that Riley is in an environment which is unfamiliar to her. She doesn't know how to respond to it which can be seen through the colour of her clothes.

When Riley was small, she didn't like broccoli. She felt disgusted. The green of the apron and the broccoli symbolises the disgust that she felt towards the vegetable.

The islands are created from Riley's core memories, experiences, interests, passion. Both the positive and negative core memories create these islands that help in making her personality. The Family island has warm colours which gives warmth in the relationship.. The Friendship island has pinks for her friendship with Meg. The Hockey island had reds, yellows to show her passion towards the sport. The Goofball island is a mix of her playful memories and hence is colourful.

The different memory balls with different colours depicts the emotions attached to that particular memory. The core memory balls shine bright and have a bright light compared to the other memory balls.

The turning grey of the different parts of Riley's head is when it shuts down. It is colourless, opposite to the point when she remembered that part. As Riley gets older, the shine of some memories go as she forgets them and turns to grey and are thrown out. They are not important to her anymore.

Bing Bong is Riley's imaginary friend of childhood. He's made from cotton candy hence is in pink and translucent. He had a rocket wagen which released a rainbow when it flies. The bright colours are from Rileys imagination as a kid.

The end of the movie brings the family together again. The yellow light on the character and the background shows the warmth they feel when they are together.

The different tones of the movie is suspense which is depicted by dark colours, rage and evil by greens, hope and goodness by yellows, sadness with dull colours and fun with the blues. This movie uses a lot of triadic colour schemes.

The yellows of Mufasa and Simba are different. The yellow of Simba is bright and fresh and that of Mufasa is pale and can be identified with a long term of life. The red on the head symbolises power, love, strength.

The dark blacks and greens in Scar’s scenes contrasted with the blues and oranges of Simba and Mufasa. The green shows the evilness in the character with the dark skin tones.

The beauty of the jungle is shown with different colours. The colours also symbolises the mischievous side of Simba towards Zazu.

The contrast of the behaviour is seen perfectly in this scene. The dark browns of Scar show the negative and the evil nature of him, whereas the bright ochre yellow shows the goodness in Mufasa.

The blue background shows the calmness of the night and the carefree mood of Simba, Timon and Pumbaa roaming around in the jungle.

The blue sky started turning into pink. The pinkish sky colour symbolises the growing love between Simba and Nala. Love is spreading through the sky.

The dull background in the cave shows the effect of Scar’s rule. No one is happy with it. It's the colour of sadness and sorrow.

The magical moment when Simba sees Mufasa amongst the clouds is denoted with purple colour. Purple symbolises mystery and magic. Hence, the scene is impactful by using the purple colour to show the power and majesty of Mufasa.

The rage of Scar to fight Simba can is perfectly depicted by the red of the fire. Scar wants to kill Simba and the determination can be seen through the background colour.

The movie is completely shot in blue. The palette of blues and greens gives a surreal look to the whole film. It's an analogous colour scheme. The film's look is more of a painting than a moving picture. The blue and the green colour added a certain style, look and feel of a world where anybody would love to live in.

The silent bridge, the water all in the shades of blues and greens. The focus on the character was done through the lighting or the costume colours. There is a feeling of calmness, dark yet lite. There is European touch in the film due to some architectural uses but it still looks Indian.

The film is shot for four night sequences. Since the whole film is in blues and greens, the difference in each night was done through different sets and also the lighting. The bright light in this scene shows the new friendship between Raj and Sakina.

Gulabji played a prostitute in the film and was the only character with colourful clothes. The background and her clothes created a contrast as she was the narrator for the film and also to emphasise her profession. Unlike the whole set, her place was lit with bulbs, the glass stairs in her room gave a buzz look to the street opposite to the other streets in the movie which are quiet and dark. But still the blues and greens can be seen clearly to maintain the overall theme of the movie intact.

Sakina’s house was a house of a carpet maker. Different coloured carpets can be seen contrasting the blues of the background. The theme colour of the film is maintained by using blue and green for the walls of the house along with the lighting.

Raj does not merge with the background which shows the fact that he is an outsider to that place. His charming and friendly nature is marked by the lights around him.

The outsider part of Raj is also shown beautifully in the song Yoon Shabnami. All the background characters are white whereas he is in his red velvet jacket, standing out in the frame. His costumes helped him to bring out the character and hence vintage materials were used like velvet, khaki, fabrics in whites and maroons. It was eventually muted and nothing screamed on the face.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali used the striking fusion of saffron and green colours to convey the story of Bajirao Mastani. Colours conveyed the royalness in the dialogues of the characters as well. The film projects the valour and majesty of the Maratha history.

The scene is lit with lamps and traditional baithak for the king. Its in the tones of orange or deep saffron which is the colour of sacrifice, light, salvation in the Maratha religion. Saffron is the colour of Hinduism.

The battles in the night made the colour palette in the tones of blues and greys. The chainmail armour, khaki and steel grey were the colours of the battle field.

Kashibai’s character was draped in bright, ethnic Indian colour nauvari traditional sarees. She wore bright Indian colours like yellow, rani pink, red, purple with traditional blouses. She had an innocent and childlike personality but also powerful. Hence happy colours were used to show her sweet personality.

Bajirao’s character in the film had to maintain a balance between his seriousness as a Peshwa and richness of that period. He was seen wearing earthy colours in the tones of browns and greys in the battle field, whereas whites and creams were used to show the sombre and emotional soft side of him. Reds, orange, blue, dark purple were used to show a celebratory moment.

Mastani’s character was mystical and fearless. In the song Deewani Mastani she is dancing and showing her love for Bajirao with this beautiful setting. The monochromatic colours blend everything in the moment. The Muslim background of Mastani was shown through the dresses she wore with sharara, lehnga. She wears reds, yellows, orange, maroon in the film as per the mood in the scene.

The green and the red of the wall showed the mixture of love and religion coming together. The passionate nature of love with no boundaries is represented with the mixture of colour of two different religions.

The orange light in the darkness symbolises Bajirao’s acceptance of love towards Mastani. There is light in the blue and dark night showing the light of love.

Bajirao was one of the most powerful statesmen of India. He believed in protecting and fighting for his land and his people. He had fought in more than 40 wars but he lost in love. The dull and grey colours show the end of him fighting against the society for his love.
