Colour used for transitions Relationship

Transitional colours are those colours associated with a character or an idea that change, either drastically or gradually depending on the character arcs or turn of events in a story. Such use of colour helps to add an extra layer or meaning to the story through visuals.

Throughout a course of any story, there will be certain relations that are formed or broken depending on the intensity. It can be a beginning of a new bond or can be a change resulting in the characters being slightly apart. Colour can often help in such situations to visually tell your story.

The movie La La Land has its visuals in complementary colour schemes i.e. opposite colours when the lead characters disagree and gradually move to almost analogous (similar) colours that are more in harmony over the course of the film mirroring the change of emotions in their relationship.
