Ambient lighting is generally accepted as the most sought for mode of lighting in a posh upper class setting. When it comes to places like luxury and smart home interior , ambient lighting is what provides the feel of luxury, followed by task accent and other modes of lighting.

The aim of this project is to create a new experience of ambient lighting through a lighting fixture, which is either suspended or ceiling mounted, where the light source is hidden and the overall effect pleasing.

The project started off with literature, market and user studies. A design brief was then framed after the needs and wants of the users were evaluated. Ideation sketches were made and clustered into groups. Each group had a cluster representative which was tested out via mock up models where one gets to play with light and shadow . Three concepts were finalized and were digitally modeled. The lighting effects were also digitally generated, after which mock up models of the same were made and tested out again.

The final concept was chosen by method of user evaluation. This concept was then taken forward to a vendor’s factory where it was prototyped and installed at the desired place for further feedback , suggestions and improvement.
