With the increase in online content, fonts which are specifically designed and optimized for online usage are needed. Due to the severe scarcity of good fonts designed for online usage, many websites use fonts in Bengali script which were designed for print media. The objectives of this project was to study the script, to learn the design process of a functional on-screen typeface and to learn hinting and adding features provided by the OpenType font format. The letterforms were designed based on a rectangular grid and outlines were created in FontLab Studio. The font was tested in different browsers and on different operating systems. This font can be used as an alternative for the existing Bengali on-screen fonts. This report also describes the design process followed to create a typeface in Bengali script for on-screen use.
