The subject of child sexual abuse is a taboo in India. There is a conspiracy of silence around the subject and people are not willing to speak about it as well.
According to National Study on Child Abuse in April 2007, Ministry of Women and Child Development child respondents 53% reported having faced one or more forms of sexual abuse that included severe and other forms. This is just a statistical report but the numbers are more. There are many people who have experienced some or other form of sexual abuse in their childhood and have lived with it for the rest of their life.
We see news about children being raped, abused almost every day in news channels and news papers. There are few NGO’s and child psychologists who are working on spreading awareness about the prevention as well as causes of child sexual abuse. The problem is very huge and we can’t solve the problem in a single day but yes we can create awareness.
As a visual communication student my project’s aim is to create Awareness among parents through theatre, facebook page and one information brochure. The project gives me a challenge of experiencing how serious information can be conveyed in an approachable and friendly way.
