Healthy nutritional habits form the basis for a healthy lifestyle. But with rapid urbanization and hectic lifestyles, there has been an increase in the consumption of processed and packaged food items. With non-communicable diseases such as Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, obesity etc. being on the rise, there is a need to inform consumers of the ill effects of overconsumption of processed foods and beverages.
The nutrition labels on these food items/beverages carry the nutrient profile and other information which are supposed to guide the consumer in making the right ‘healthy’ decision for themselves. But what happens when the information mentioned on the package is not enough to make that decision? For this project, I have decided to focus on non-alcoholic beverages, which included energy drinks, fizzy beverages, fruit juices etc. and the added sugars within these beverages.
This project intends to create a deeper understanding of the nutritional label on non-alcoholic beverages as they are not entirely successful in communicating the nutritional information, mainly regarding added sugars, and secondly create an impact on the perception of the healthiness of a beverage, thereby influencing the purchasing decision of a consumer.
