I have selected the topic, "LGBTQ and freedom" mainly because I believe in equality and hate discrimination. The basic fundamental right, which is the right to live, should be equal to all human beings.
I believe that every person is unique and have their own purpose in this world. People should be allowed to live their lives freely while abiding to the basic human laws. But in the case of India, it is such an issue, that makes the situation for the LGBTQ community worse. Law 377 under the Indian constitution does not allow for the same sex to marry in India. And being gay is wrong in the Indian society and such people are seen as not worthy. The law was made during British rule in India and it is outdated.
Just because people don't find it common does not mean that it is wrong. Opposite sex marriage and relationships are common among the human race. That does not mean same sex marriage/relationships are wrong. People are afraid of what they don't know.
I thought to take this subject when I came to know that gay marriage was illegal in India and then again when I read about the issue which occurred in Kochi, Kerala where transgender people who were given jobs at metro stations had to forcefully resign because of the society not allowing them to lead a respectable life and felt they were not-worthy. Those people were ill-treated and were called names. It is not their mistake, they are what they are. And so, should have the right and freedom to live in whichever way they want. They are not hurting anyone. They are human beings.
One of the behaviors seen in India is that people are more interested in other's lives more than their own. I want my audience to understand that in this ever developing country there are more independent youngsters coming up, and judging them blindly by the way they live, dress, speak, talk or look like should not be the reason to not allow a place for them in the society. Accept the change.
The law, right for privacy which gives the community a strong ground, has given the LGBTQ community hope to live their life and come out to the society openly accepting their gender orientation. All these problems in this society have caught my attention and I needed to make a movie on LGBTQ.
Just because of their sexual orientation, these people are not allowed to live their lives and are also not allowed to work at their desired workplace to get a respectable living. People who are leading this life are looked at through bad eyes and are shamelessly called different names in the society. The saying that 'sometimes it is not them, but you who may be wrong' fits perfectly in this situation our country is facing. Lot of talented youngsters and even the middle aged groups have given up their lives to death because of this situation. I want these things to be changed, I want everyone to get equal opportunity. Just because some people are born into this world differently does not make them bad or ill-worthy, they deserve a chance. And who are we to decide who gets what? May the best always succeed.
I want my movie to show that it is humanity, love and freedom to live is what that matter.
