Health and sanitation are often the most neglected parts of the school infrastructure in our country. A school consists mainly of people and resources. Facilities and school equipment are as much part of the school setup as are the students and teachers. The quality of education must not suffer due to provision of improper or unsuitable facilities.
Schools in India, specially the mid‐segment ones, such as the Kendriya Vidyalayas, operate under tough conditions. Large number of students, limited resources and tight budgets are few of the issues that many schools have to deal with. Under such circumstances, provision of proper school amenities like furniture, lab equipment, sanitation and hygiene tends to get a lesser priority.

For boys urinal:
Mounting at suitable height for the smaller kids, Sensor operated flush, Disinfectant dispenser, Exhaust fan (for bathroom) and Flush‐less urinal.
Project Brief:Hence the project 'Redesign of school Amenities: Sanitation' was undertaken as an attempt to understand the importance of good sanitation in schools and aims at designing sanitaryware for the same.
Tough the initial brief of the project was 'to re‐design sanitation facilities for schools in India', but after detailed study of the situation, the Urinal ‐ was found to have a number of issues regarding its usage and suitability in schools.
And hence, the final project brief was decided as
'Redesigning of a Urinal [boys] for schools'
_Which should be Appropriate for schools, Ease of use, maintenance, Modular (with proper student‐unit ratio).
Final Product:
The project aimed at improving the state of sanitation facilities in Indian schools. The new urinal is strong, light‐weight, ergonomic and functionally designed, and is packaged well in child‐friendly colors. It also houses a sensor flush which is installed inside the casing.
The subject of sanitation in schools is a wide and complicated area of study. A number of issues exist regarding the design, maintenance and usability of such amenities. Also, schools in India are spread across a broad economic spectrum. The project began with a focus on middle‐rung schools of the country; the final product is probably being better suited in institutions that are financially stable/ surplus.
