“Post Office” is an animated short film adapted from a short story by Dhumketu of the same name. It is a story of a parent’s love for their child, and it is a story that celebrates values of dedication, patience, and honesty. As the story progresses, the people at the post office who laugh at the protagonist come to understand his pain and feel pity. This film adapts the emotional short story “Post Office” by Dhumketu, focusing on themes of parental longing, faith, and selfless love. To condense the ten-page story into a one-minute film, several adaptations were made: the character of Ali, originally a ruthless hunter, is streamlined to emphasize his yearning for his daughter Miriam; the postmaster’s role is reimagined as Laxmidas, a curious new postman who searches the village for Ali upon the arrival of a letter, creating a connection between them; and Miriam’s presence is minimized, appearing only through her name to maintain ambiguity while preserving the story’s emotional core. These adjustments ensure the essence of longing and human connection remains intact within the condensed narrative.
