From 17th to 24th December 2009, a 7-day workshop on tools, small machines, finishes, and new product design was held at the Bamboo Studio, IDC IIT Bombay, in collaboration with Mahila Udyog Prashikshan Samiti, Baran, Rajasthan, and the Forest Product Cluster, Government of Rajasthan. The workshop focused on skill development in bamboo craftsmanship, providing hands-on training in using small tools and machinery, exploring innovative finishes, and creating new bamboo product designs. Participants, including artisans and designers, worked on developing functional and aesthetic prototypes such as furniture, utility items, and decorative pieces, blending traditional techniques with contemporary design approaches. This initiative empowered rural artisans, particularly women, by enhancing their skills and promoting bamboo as a sustainable resource for livelihood development.
