Detailed Description

Innovative New Product Development, using 'TRIZ' creative methodology' was conducted on 17th and 18th May 2012 at IDC, IIT Bombay. TRIZ is a creative methodology that can help companies develop new products with a competitive advantage. Its origins are Russian, and it translates to ‘Theory of Inventive Problem Solving." TRIZ identifies and isolates sore points in a technical system (TS), which is either a product or process, frames a contradiction (administrative, technical, or physical), strengthens this contradiction, and resolves it. TRIZ has been successfully applied to develop breakthrough innovations, particularly those that are technical in nature. IDC at IIT Bombay conducted a 2-day workshop on New Product Development with an emphasis on the use of TRIZ as a methodology for creating innovative products. The sessions included the basic principles of TRIZ and its application, interspersed with case studies. The half-day TRIZ Clinic gave the participants an opportunity to apply the TRIZ method to solve their industry-specific problems. The participants are encouraged to bring their problems, which they can discuss in the clinic session. The following topics are discussed during the workshop: -Introduction to design. -New product development. -Introduction to TRIZ, contradictions and their resolutions. -Five levels of invention: system, subsystem, and super-system. -Laws of Technical Systems’ Evolution LTSE – the first four laws. other four laws. -Last law, the law of increasing idealization, dissected to evaluate convolution and its far-reaching effects. Innovative Design: Theory and Application with Case Studies -TRIZ Clinic: Technical Solutions to problems are given or brought by participants as part of their individual ongoing projects.
