The IIT Bombay Knowledge Tree is a significant and iconic piece of art located in front of the main building of the institute. Nestled among the verdant greens, the Knowledge Tree symbolises the growth and expansion of knowledge, representing the academic and research excellence of IIT Bombay. It embodies the institute's dedication to fostering academic excellence and developing the next generation of leaders. A tree with branching elements is used in the design to represent the many branches of knowledge and the connections between many disciplines. It was built during the academic year 1974–1975 under the visionary leadership of former Director Prof. A K. De and former Chairperson of the Board of Governors Shri. Homi Sethna.
