This was the thirteenth edition of the newsletter in January-June 1989. In this edition they have mentioned the projects of 1988. The projects mentioned are: plastic bicycles for children, Data Phone, Electronic Cash Register for Jwellers, Xerox machine, Dental Unit, Computer Support Furniture for Offices, Products in Bamboo, Taxi, Battery Powered Aircraft Towing Vehicles, Train Toilets, etc. Akara was an exposition of world calligraphy was held in 1988, under the sponsorship of the Indira Gandhi National Centre for Arts, New Delhi. The exhibition was designed by Prof. R.K. Joshi of IDC. Akara attempted, and admirably succeeded, in giving fresh life to the living tradition of calligraphy—the art of art. They have added an obituary column to this. They have added heartfelt condolences to the death of Pandit Narendra Sharma—an eminent Hindi poet, philosopher, and writer, Manu Desai—the well-known art director and design symbology expert, Prof. B.S. Jagadish—the professor of the department of Mechanical Engineering, Fujio Watanabe—the well-known young Japanese illustrator and designer. The Ergonomics news was ISE-an Indian Society of Ergonomics (ISE) has been founded and registered under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act. ISE-OH-SE-an International Symposium on Ergonomics, Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment will be held in Bombay, 1991. New Equipment: IDC’s ergonomics laboratory has acquired the following new equipment under the MHRD and DST sponsored projects: Cycle Rickshaw Project, New Students etc. Another important news mentioned was about Expo ID. Exposure to Industrial Design was a 3-day course for industries that was organised at IDC. The course covered topics such as design process, design management, product planning, product ergonomics, aesthetics, creativity, product graphics, and so on. also mentioned about 20 years of IDC. A number of activities and events are planned to mark this occasion.
