Detail

This was the fifteenth edition of the newsletter in January-March 1993. In the introduction of this edition, they have added Abhikalpa: Design Degree Show '92, an exhibition of design projects by the students of IDC and IIT Bombay, which was held at the Nehru Centre. The Degree Show displays the work of young designers passing out of IDC and gives them an opportunity to present their ideas to the industry and the public at large. On another page they mentioned Design Experience 3. It was a seminar held as an accompaniment to the ‘Degree Show' in 1992 at the Nehru Centre. This seminar on contemporary design applications aims at consolidating the work done by the past students of IDC who at present occupy various design positions and assessing their influence on the design applications in our country. The objective of the seminar was to draw attention to the problems connected with the dissemination of design knowledge, its application, and its realisation into workable solutions. In the Alumni Awards, IDc has instituted two awards for the best student projects: one in Industrial Design and the other in Visual Communication. 3-D Simulation System of the Heart as a Learning Aid The heart is the single most important organ in the human body and works non-stop from birth to death. The simulation system is designed to provide aspiring surgeons with a packaged learning aid. The student projects included are; Pictorial Guide-cum-Map of Deccan Trap; Traditional Children’s Games-A Visual Documentation. In the research projects they have included the redesign of an Indian style water closet and the cycle rickshaw project. They mentioned environmental design for voltas, a liquid nitrogen (LN2) container for IBP, a calligraphy workshop, new IDC publications, and so on in the news section.
