Musical Toys are toys that produce some sound/noise due to a specific action like blowing, shaking, pulling, beating etc. These toys help children learn cause and effect. Musical toys introduce children to the variety of tones and pitches. Early musical experiences are very important for social, cognitive and physical development of children, as well as their future musical competencies. These toys help children to bring rhythm to their movements.
Musical Toys are made from various kinds of materials like wood, metal, clay, bamboo, plastic, and grass. The lacquered wooden musical toys like rattles, maracas, etc. are from Chennapatna in Karnataka and Sawantwadi in Maharashtra. The clay toys are from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Ektara, the stringed instrument, is from West Bengal.
