Sustainability and Design
What is the module about
This module is a part of a much bigger design thinking elective for secondary school students of the CBSE board. This specific lesson plan is meant for class 10 students and aims to help students understand why we need to move towards more sustainable design practices and the approaches used to create more sustainable products. They learn to think holistically, in terms of systems, and analyse the lifecycle of a product. They finally learn about sustainability strategies and technologies and how to apply them. The module has been designed in accordance to Kolb's experiential learning cycle where new knowledge is built on top of existing knowledge that students already have.
Scope of this module
• This module looks at sustainable design through the lens of anyone involved in the design of products.
• This module focuses only on products, as the duration of this module is too short to cover other elements that affect sustainability.
This module has been designed for a physical classroom and many parts required access to the internet, as CBSE has been pushing for the availability of the internet in all schools affiliated with it.
