There are lot of things, which nobody taught us, but we know them and most of these we learnt while playing with the things around us. Play is very much an essential activity in the child's daily activities. A child can find joy and excitement in discovering things. Playthings are indirect teachers for kids, which implant knowledge in playful mode. Hence, right kind of toys has direct implication on the overall development of the child.
Reflecting the philosophy,
__Children do not play to learn - but they learn from playing.
The project 'Play Kit in Bamboo - Based on Optics' is an attempt to understand the abstract theories and relate them with every day experiences. i.e. Providing practical knowledge as an experiential learning before getting theoretical knowledge.
Nowadays children have many varieties of play kits. With new technologies and materials many possibilities and challenges are introduced in these kits.
Case Study Downloads:Aim:
The project aims to develop a play kit or science kit in bamboo using the optical devices, which could become a tool to help children learn principles of optics in an enjoyable and interesting way through play as an activity.
Initiate a learning process where standard optical devices are manipulated to obtain known results with defined learning objectives. The process or activity will be a play, which will lead to trigger creative and open-ended results bringing in new learning objectives to comprehend the principles of light in a tacit way.
The design challenge is to develop features that are specific enough so that kids can quickly understand how to use them but general enough so that kids can continue to find new ways to use them.
