Lacquer

  • Printer-friendly version

The back of the card is coated with ‘Kewda’ (known as Kia in Oriya) leaves or lacquer to give them a shine, and stiffness and prevent them from termites. This remarkably changes the colours too, making them more rich and saturated. During the ancient period, Ganjappa cards were coated with gold and silver.
