Adivala and Pattara halli- these two clusters are located in Hiriyur taluk of Chitradurga district in Karnataka. Coir twine making is traditionally practiced in both the villages. The place Hiriyur and surrounding villages have rich resource of coconut trees due to good climatic conditions and abundant availability of water from the river Vedavati. Since 30 years, nearly 70% of village families are engaged in coir twine making and other coir products. Natural fibre coir (locally known as Thengina uri) is finely processed using automated coir refining machines. The refined coir is entwined into coir yarn by twisting manually. Coir rope is further used for making different coir products such as coir mats, bags and other decorative items.
