The local people in Nagaon enjoy a sense of rich cultural history and this continues to be reflected in their everyday life style. The sattras form the centres for the spread and practice of vaishnavism in Assam amongst which the Narowa Sattra and Salaguri Sattra are famous ones where the birth and death anniversaries of the Vaishnava saints are observed there with great grandeur.
Place:
Nagoan forms one of the largest district in the state of Assam. While tourist image of the town is associated with the location of the famous wildlife sanctuary of Kaziranga known for the one horned Rhino, the locals associate Nagoan as the epicenter of vaishnavite culture of the Assamese. Bordowa, around 18 kms north-west from Nagaon town is the birth place of revered Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankardeya, the great artist, literateur, dramatist and the founder of Vaisnavism in Assam.
