The Indian state of Orissa has a rich cultural and artistic heritage. Due to the region of many different rulers in the past, arts and crafts in Orissa underwent many changes giving an artistic diversity today in the forms of traditional handicrafts, painting and carving.

Situated on the eastern coast of India, Odisha, more popularly known as Orissa is a beautiful state with its own proud history and culture. Thousands of master craftsmen weave magic with their hands in Orissa. Be it sand art, sculpture, handicrafts, painting, Orissa skills are legendary. Music and dance are also an integral part of its rich and diverse culture.

Modern art painting is a traditional painting of Orissa. Modern art painting exhibit the light line and brilliant color that are the two principal aspects of Orissa painting. The main occupation of the people here are the crafts they indulge in.

Modern art the term is usually associated with art in which the tradition of the past have been thrown aside in a spirit of experimentation. Modern artists experimented with new ways of seeing and with fresh ideas about the nature of materials and functions of art. A tendency away from the narrative, which was characteristic for the traditional arts, toward abstraction is characteristic of much modern art. More recent artistic production is often called contemporary art or post modern art.

A painting is an image created using color on a surface such as canvas. The medium is commonly applied to the base with a brush but other object can be used. In art, the term painting describes both the act and result of the action. However, painting is also used outside of art as a common trade among craftsmen.

In modern art painting the artisan use acrylic colours. Acrylic paint is a fast drying paint made of pigment suspended in acrylic polymer emulsion. Acrylic paints are usually diluted with waters. Dries within a few hours. The quick drying nature of the acrylic colors makes it is easy to work with in terms of storage, especially if you are working on a canvas as you can just roll up the canvas without the fear of paint being cracked or damaged.
