The oppressed people made the Theyyam deities subject to the temple deities. Since the caste system was so rigorous, it was necessary to develop temple worship because lower caste people were not allowed to enter them or worship the Aryan Gods. So they built little shrines and performed the embodiment of God as Theyyam in their shrines for their religious practices and rites. Castes like Thiyya, Vaniya, Maniyani, Kammalar, and others have their own shrines and deities, and each year they perform "Theyyam Kaliyatam " to please God. Peruvannan, Perumalayan, Panan, Anjootan, Munnootan, Kalanadikal, Mavilan, Kappalan, Nalkithaya, Thulumalayala Velan, and Pulayar are the castes that conduct the Theyyakolam. They are frequently referred to as " Theyyakaran."
