Reproductive health and hygiene is a crucial aspect of adolescents' wellbeing. But due to the taboo associated with it, parents find it difficult to address it. Some are unaware of the changes their adolescent children are going through or the kind of support required. Those who are aware aren't equipped to have these 'sex talks. Though parents' and adolescents' communication is an important factor in sex education, interventions in the domain have always focussed on adolescents only, with the intent of education. The delivery model has evolved from books, charts, videos, films to m-health applications, websites, chat-rooms, etc. However, the information delivered through apps and websites is factual and technical. Lack of context makes it incomprehensible for adolescents; thus, they cannot apply it in their real life.
This project aims to contextualize sex education for adolescents and parents through a mobile application. Instead of using an educational approach with a unidirectional narrative, this intervention provides information in interactive stories based on everyday situations and from different family members. The app personalizes the stories by asking the user to make decisions in several instances. The intent is to have a possibility of multiple storylines, which can make the users (children and parents) curious to know the alternate story paths. Reproductive health awareness generated through such stories targets to bridge the communication gap between adolescents and their parents.
