Traditional block making is an art of carving designs or patterns on wood followed by the natives of Pethapur village in Gandhinagar. Pethapur, situated 40 kilometers away from the Ahmedabad and it is the only enduring centre of wood block carving. These wooden blocks are sold directly to the printer where there will be no middlemen or agents between the printer and carver. Mr. Mukesh. P. Prajapati, a renowned craftsman, who has 30 years of experience in block making. He gets orders from various places like Kutch, Bhuj, Mumbai, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and Bengaluru etc. Block sizes and price will be totally depends on the designs or patterns. The size of the block starts from 1sqinch inch and the price starts from INR100 to INR10,000 and more.
