In 1992, the CAVE system was demonstrated as an immersive VR environment which was based on the principle of wrapping up the entire field of view of the user with stereoscopic images forming a virtual cave around. The users equipped with stereoscopic glasses could submerge themselves in the visual representations, projected to the walls of the cave which were updated to align with his/her perspective. CAVE system was developed by Carolina Cruz-Neira, at the University of Illinois, Chicago Electronic Visualization Laboratory.
