This poster was made for the movie Pather Panchali, a Bengali language drama film written and directed by Satyajit Ray and produced by the Government of West Bengal in 1955. It is an adaptation of Bibhutibhishan Bandyopadhyay’s 1929 Bengali novel of the same name. Although it was popular at the box office, it had only made a profit of Rs. 24 lakh as of the beginning of 1980. The West Bengal Chief Minister and the Indian Prime Minister attended a special screening.
