Detailed Description

This poster is from Indian director G. V. Iyer's 1983 Sanskrit film Adi Shankaracharya, which was made in India. The movie tells the story of Hindu scholar Adi Shankaracharya, who popularised the Advaita Vedanta (non-dualism) school of thought in the eighth century. This film is a shining example of Kannada cinema's experimental film period. Sanskrit was used for the first time in an Indian film. It received four honours at the 31st National Film Awards: best picture, best writing, best cinematography, and best audiography.
